About Me

I’m Lauren. I’ve been writing as long as I can remember. When I was a baby, I didn’t sleep very well. My mother spent many long nights sitting in the rocking chair with me, reading books. For hours. One of my favorites was In the Night Kitchen by Maurice Sendak. As the story goes, I had the book memorized before I was two, and when my parents’ friends came over, I would “read” the book to them.

In fifth grade, one of our projects was to write a book, illustrations and hard cover and everything. I still remember mine. It was a continuation of the Little House on the Prairie series. Although I don’t recall exactly how the story went, I remember how proud I felt when I finished and could hold it in my hands. Definitely my favorite assignment in elementary school.

My first complete book was Blown. It took me five years to finish the manuscript, but it was worth every draft. After finishing the third revision, I decided that I would use that project to learn how to write a novel.

My current project is a family memoir centering on my late uncle, Fred Halsted. I will use this website to keep you updated about my progress. Stay tuned …
